The 59.1% of Spanish households have internet access, against 54% last year, according to the survey equipment and use information and communication technologies in the home of the National Statistics Institute (INE). In total, nine million families that already houses
are connected to the network, representing an increase of 700,000 households compared to 2009.
Of this total number of connected households, 57.4% (almost 8.8 million homes) have broadband Internet (ADSL, cable network, etc..) Percentage represents an increase of more than 900,000 households compared to the previous year. Furthermore, the connection to mobile broadband grows 6.6 points, reaching a coverage of 11, 7% of homes with access. The main equipment available in homes to connect to the internet are the desktop computer (72% of homes), laptop (61.1%) and mobile phone (25.4%), although increases access by other devices (PDAs, PDA, TV or game console) and the console connection, going from 7.3% in 2009 to 13.8% in 2010.
Rate higher than the average
The regions with the highest percentage of homes with internet access are Catalonia (68.3%) and Madrid (66.9%). In addition, the Balearic Islands, the Basque Country, Navarre, Aragon and Asturias have a rate higher than the national average (59.1%). Read the rest of this entry »
